C.G. Jung Society of St. Louis Writing Contest

As a follow-up to our amazing conference in November 2009, Jung in the Heartland: Portals to the Sacred, the C.G. Jung Society of St. Louis invites you to discern and open more of these portals through writing. Then, submit your work to our contest! Attendance at the 2009 conference is not required to enter this contest. We are soliciting several genres: essays, creative non-fiction, and one act plays.

Details for Submission: 
Essays, Creative Non-Fiction, or One Act Plays
on “Portals to the Sacred from a Jungian Perspective”

Attendance at the 2009 conference is not required to enter this contest.

Submission Guidelines:

1. Entry Fees
-$20 for each entry (each participant may submit up to 3 entries)
-Preferred payment method: Paypal on cgjungstl.org website.  (See below)
-Alternative payment: check for the entry fee(s) made out to The C.G. Jung Society of St. Louis mailed to: Jane Wilson, 63 Marshall Place, St. Louis, MO 63119

2. Deadline: Submissions will be accepted until October 15, 2010.
No entries will be accepted after the October 15 deadline.

3. Submission genres accepted for the writing contest are essay, creative non-fiction or one act plays. Submissions must be emailed as a Microsoft Word document to: CGJungSTLWriting@sbcglobal.net  Entries should be double-spaced, using size 12 Times New Roman font.

4. Maximum length for entry is 4,000 words.  All submissions must be original and no previously published works, or works accepted for publication elsewhere, are eligible.  Work may be under consideration elsewhere, but MUST be withdrawn from the competition if accepted elsewhere for publication. The C.G. Jung Society of St. Louis reserves the right of first publication both online and in print. Current board members of the C.G. Jung Society of St. Louis are not eligible to enter the contest.

5. Name, address, telephone number and email address should appear only on the first page or cover sheet. The author’s name and identifying information should not appear on any subsequent page for anonymity during judging.  This allows us to separate your name from the submission; we will associate name to submission by number, internally.

6. Judging criteria: Primary consideration will be given to the entry's originality and its contribution to knowledge and insights from a Jungian perspective regarding the theme, “Portals to the Sacred.”
Entries will be judged according to the following criteria:
- Substance and originality
- Idea development (clarity, creativity, Jungian perspective)
- Writing style, composition and organization.

7. Prizes: $1000 first prize, $500 second prize, $250 third prize.
The judges reserve the right not to award all prizes if the quality of entries is not sufficient to merit awards.

8. Winners will be announced by December 1, 2010.
All contestants will be notified by email of the judges’ decision.
